Citec collaborated with Special Olympics (SOI) on the development of transportation planning resources and operational guidance for future Special Olympics events.

From Turin 2025 to the Games of tomorrow
It all stems from the experience gained during the Special Olympics World Winter Games Turin 2025, where Citec supported the Games organization in the planning and management of transport operations, managing the event’s Transport Department on behalf of the Local Organizing Committee.
Following this experience, and on the excellent results achieved, Citec provided technical assistance to SOI in capturing lessons learned and strengthening transportation planning resources and operational guidance for future Heads of Transport across all Special Olympics Global events including Summer World Games, Winter World Games and Single Sport Events.
A global movement for inclusion through sport
The Special Olympics World Games are the movement’s flagship international multi-sport event, bringing together thousands of athletes with intellectual disabilities from around the world to compete and celebrate inclusion through sport. The next two editions are the World Games Santiago 2027, the first Special Olympics World Games to be held in Latin America, and the World Winter Games Switzerland 2029.
The Single Sport Events bring together athletes with and Unified partners without intellectual disabilities from multiple countries. Recent editions include the Unified Football World Cup in Paris, France, in 2026, and the Unified 3×3 Basketball World Cup in Puerto Rico and Unified Volleyball World Cup in Poland in 2025.
Citec and Playground: joint expertise in large events
This assignment was made possible by Citec’s well-established experience in mobility planning for major sporting events, including the UEFA EURO (2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020), the Ryder Cup (2018, 2023 and 2027), and the Winter and Summer Olympic Games (Turin 2006, Sochi 2014, PyeongChang 2018, Paris 2024, Milano Cortina 2026 and the French Alps 2030).
During the Special Olympics World Winter Games Turin 2025, the role of Head of Transport was held by Enzo Calabrò, who is now continuing his professional journey as Managing Director of Playground Italia, bringing with him the experience gained in the field and putting it at the service of new, complex mobility projects.
It is precisely this complementary expertise that creates the value of the Citec and Playground partnership: combining strategic capabilities, planning expertise and operational capacity to support transport organization from strategy to operations, from defining the plan to implementing it on the ground.
Citec and Playground are available to support organizers, institutions and stakeholders in developing integrated transport plans for major events, guiding every stage of the project and transforming field experience into concrete, efficient and replicable solutions.
A journey that begins with the experience of a major event and is now translated into skills and tools available to support the Games of tomorrow.
