Mega Events Seminar with Citec

LISBON — On Thursday, February 29, Citec will present the keynote session during the “Turning Cities into Mega Events Stages” seminar organized by the Center for Innovation in Territory, Urbanism, and Architecture (CiTUA).

CiTUA, the R&D Unit housed at Lisbon Instituto Superior Tecnico (IST), will host the seminar “Turning Cities into Mega Events Stages: From Theoretical Considerations to Practical Implementations in Portugal” on February 29. It will bring together national and international academics and practitioners dedicated to the hosting of mega events. The main objective is to contrast academics knowledge on the interrelationship between cities and events, with the practical implementation in major events, hosted or to be hosted in Portugal. Additionally, it aims to disseminate and bring awareness on a topic which usually goes unnoticed to event audiences: the city as a stage. The seminar sessions include panels with some of the most renowned experts on the field.

Host Cities and Large Events: Citec shares its expertise

Stefano Manelli, Head of Citec Large Events and Head of Transport of Fondazione Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, will be the keynote speaker. He will present the opening session “Olympic Games Transition and Host Cities Long-Term Development”, carried out in partnership with Philippe Bovy, Professor emeritus of Transportation at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology EPFL Switzerland. It will disccus host cities now facing the challenge of utilizing existing infrastructure, and investing in projects that benefit citizens beyond the event’s closing ceremony. Specifically, the upcoming Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Games, the first to be hosted at a macro-regional scale, will symbolize a pivotal moment in this transition, highlighting a new era in the Olympic Movement.
