Transport departement for the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, Milan
On June 2019 Milano and Cortina were awarded the 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games thanks to the bid proposal of using almost all existing sport facilities. The XXV Winter Olympic Games will take place in a geographical area spread over the whole Northern Italy. 4 different clusters will be organized (1 urban in Milan and 3 in the mountain regions in Cortina, Val di Fiemme and Valtellina) with the involvment of 3 different Regions and numerous Provinces and Municipalities. The organization of the mobility plans and transport services, both for the stakeholders and the spectators, will represent one of the most critical organizational aspects for the success of the Games. Citec, starting from 2020, has assumed the role of management of the Transport functional area within the Organizing Committee.

Project characteristics
- 1,5 million tickets in 16 competition day
- 1’100 buses and coaches / 2’300 cars and minivan
- 13 competition venues and more than 30 transport hubs (airports, train stations, park & ride areas, depots, etc.)
Role of Citec
- Development of the transport strategy, concept and operational planning
- Development of the transport budget and human ressources
- Development of the transport team newcomers onboarding plan and contents
Definition of the Level of Services, fleet (buses and cars) estimation and procurement - Relations with the host territories and the transport authorities
- Calculation of the needs in terms of spaces around the competition and non-competition venues and their organization
